After my latest posts regarding the Valdés family, the response to this lost bit of family history from family members has generally been one of gratitude. Most were genuinely surprised (I know I was) at the ability my grandfather had to bring people together. Adrienne, my step-daughter who knows something about well respected grandfathers, commented that our Papatón really "schooled" the editor of the El Paso Times by his response letter in the Everyday Events rebuttal.
As a result of these postings, my cousin Steve Zacarias Valdés, reached out through his sister Monica. I had not heard from or about Steve for many years. He has been living in Jacksonville, Florida, with his wife Sandra, and their now grown kids. I also learned he just finished putting together a bio of his father, Raul, accompanied by awesome photos and important documents that round-out Papatón's legacy.
